Mugdha Godse is not your conventional actress, and as she puts it, she is fine with it. The model-turned-actress, who made her debut with Fashion, is happy with the kind of roles coming her way. “When you start out with a movie like Fashion, the expectations are obviously sky-high. But I am glad that cinema is undergoing a gradual change. There are a lot of women-oriented films being made, and there is no dearth of roles for anyone," she says.
Mugdha is upbeat about her next big screen outing, a cameo in
Prakash Jha's
Satyagraha. “I did the film only for Jha. He is one of my favourite directors. His films are unique and it is a privilege for me to be a part of this film. Though it is a cameo, I like the role that I have been given.”
The actress has often been told that she plays the Marathi
mulgi perfectly, something she is very proud about. “I am a Maharashtrian and I have studied in a Marathi medium school. My Marathi is much better than most people around here. I am not boasting, but sometimes when I see actresses playing Marathi girls in Hindi movies, I think I can play those roles well. No one can play a Marathi
mulgi better than me.”
Ask her about her plans to venture into Marathi cinema and she says that is something she is still toying with. “I want to do these films, but with the kind of money being offered to an actor there, I would prefer to produce and be a business woman. Being pretentious never works.”
Her next full-fledged role is in a movie with
Vinay Pathak, where she plays a Punjabi girl. “I had to deliver dialogues in a typical Punjabi accent, so I worked on that. I can’t talk much about the film, but it is the story of a middle-class couple in Delhi.”
